Partnership Visas

What are Partnership Visas?

As the name suggests, partnership visas are based on a genuine, stable, and credible partnership between the visa applicant and the supporting partner who must be living together as a couple. They must be able to provide substantial relevant evidence in support of their partnership claims. The rules for partnership visas are very different for New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.

Why do Partnership Visa applications often get declined?

In specific situations where the visa applicant and the supporting partner are living in different countries, they must still provide evidence of a genuine, stable, and credible partnership, although they might not be living together for reasons beyond their control. This situation adds high risk to the visa applications, which often lead to visas being refused.

Often, despite living together in a genuine, stable, and credible partnership (but some couples not living together due to living in different countries), a large percentage of partnership visa applications get declined. The most common decline reason is the lack of verifiable evidence provided in support of the partnership. This mostly happens due to sheer ignorance of the policy requirements, primarily when the supporting evidence is prepared and submitted by the applicant themself.

It is not just the lack of sufficient supporting evidence that adds high risks. A critical deciding factor is the manner of preparation and presentation of the evidence. A partnership visa application (for visitor, work, or residence visa) is identical to a romance novel, which must make sense to the immigration officer in understanding their love story, who must be able to understand and be satisfied that the evidence is relevant to their claims. In essence, like everywhere else in life, the packaging and presentation of the evidence is as critical as the evidence itself. Try taking apart a 500-page romance novel, and then glueing back the pages in a random order. It wouldn’t make sense even to the author of the novel. That is the sad fate of many partnership visa applications.

As licensed immigration consultants, we are highly specialised in partnership visa applications for applicants from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. We are experts in these matters and can guide you how to mitigate high risks by properly planning how to collate and provide the supporting evidence over the period of the relationship. We ensure that every decision-ready partnership visa application prepared and submitted by us is of exemplary quality, for which we have received commendations from immigration officers on numerous occasions and have maintained an approval rate above 98% during the past 15 years.

Are you eligible for the Residence visa under the Partnership Category?

These are granted for the partners/spouses of Citizens and Permanent Residents of New Zealand, Australia, and Canada who have been living together in a genuine, stable, and credible relationship for a required duration of time, and are able to provide substantial evidence in support of their partnership claims. The rules for partnership visas are different for New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.

Are you eligible for a Work visa as partner / spouse of a Citizen or Permanent Resident?

If you are the partner/spouse of a Citizen or Permanent Resident of New Zealand, Australia, or Canada, you might be eligible for the grant of a work visa under the partnership policy.

To be granted such a work visa, you must be living together in a genuine, stable, and credible relationship as a couple, and be able to provide substantial evidence in support of your partnership claims. Such a work visa would normally allow you to work in any occupation for any employer for a specific duration of time.

Are you eligible for a Work visa as partner / spouse of a holder of Work visa or Student visa?

You might be eligible for the grant of a Work visa as partner of a holder of a Work visa (or the holder of a Student visa) if you meet the relevant immigration policy rules for New Zealand, Australia, or Canada. Such Work visas would normally be granted for the same period as the visa held by the supporting partner, but might be granted with specific visa conditions.

To be granted such a work visa, you must provide sufficient supporting evidence of living together in a genuine, stable, and credible relationship as a couple.

Are you eligible for a Visitor visa as partner of a Citizen / Permanent Resident, or holder of Work / Student visa?

When the couple have not lived together for a reasonable period of time or are unable to provide sufficient supporting evidence of living together in a genuine, stable, and credible relationship, the applicant might be granted a Visitor visa instead of a Work visa. This is done to give the couple an opportunity to start living together and collate evidence of living together over a period of time.
